Mrs. Bartuska:

Reading & Writing

The Bartuska family in Buffalo Peaks Wilderness.

Sherwood and Piper.

It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts... it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves. -Robert Hutchin

This will be my 8th year here at Mortensen. My first placement was in a part-time support position for 3rd and 4th grade, taught one year in 3rd and then I have been mostly in 4th grade, and last year was my first year in 5th grade.

Before my reentry into education, I taught third and fourth grade in the Cherry Creek School District for ten years. After five years of teaching, I went back to school and received a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading. I eventually took a leave of absence to be home with my family. I have two boys that are active, Riley, a sophomore at Chatfield High School, and Joel, an eighth grader at Falcon Bluffs Middle School. My husband has a full-time position at Chatfield High School as the site technologist.

I have lived in Colorado all of my life. I grew up in Boulder and went to college in Fort Collins, and have ended up here in Littleton. What can I say? Colorado is a "perfect" state! When I am not busy with family activities and planning for the classroom, I enjoy anything in the outdoors like hiking, camping, walking my dogs, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. Other pastimes I like are Yoga, reading, eating out, socializing with friends & family, traveling, and just being in the comforts of my home.

I look forward to being a part of your family and getting to know all of you as individuals. I thank you ahead of time for sharing your child, and may we work together to help him/her succeed in this exciting year of diving deeper into curricular concepts and becoming intricate thinkers as a fifth grader.

May I help your kids accomplish what our mission is here at Mortensen: to nurture, empower, and inspire all of our children to become successful learners in a world full of possibilities. May we learn, create and succeed together.

Live, Love, Laugh & LEARN,
