Lead Poisoning is a serious issue that is caused by a variety of sources including the soil, pipes, and even food. However, it's most commonly spread through lead paint in houses built before 1978. It affects primarily children causing brain, liver and kidney damage, slowed development, learning or behavioral problems, lowered intellect, and hearing loss. It also affects adults, being linked to heart issues, cancers, and increased criminal behaviors.
Lead Poisoning is a very serious issue in Syracuse and impacts up to 1/3rd of children in some areas. It is likely that you may have lead poisoning if you live in the shadow of I-81, live in housing built before 1978, or if you have old pipes in your house. It is important that you address these issues as they will cause harm to both you and your family if left alone. You can find testing sites for both yourself and your home in the contacts tab as well as other resources so that you can take care of lead in your home.
We are informing the citizens of Syracuse through an educational campaign wherein we distribute informative pamphlets, flyers, and postcards to the citizens of Syracuse in order to enable them to learn about this deadly disease and provide them with the information they need to prevent lead from hurting themselves or their families.
