Gum Springs Elementary School Counselor

My name is Jennifer Miller. I am the counselor for Gum Springs Elementary School grades K-5. Formerly, I was the chairperson for the Jackson County Student Support Services Organization. I have a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a M.Ed. in guidance and counseling. I am a nationally certified counselor also. I have worked as an elementary school counselor in Jackson County for 14 years. I have also worked as a middle school counselor, a DFCS case worker, a community counselor, and an activity therapist. I am married and have 3 sons. Please stop by my office if I can be of assistance to you or stop by just to say hello. My door is always open!

Mission Statement:

To provide a comprehensive, developmental program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. School counselors are professional advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents and/or guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

Counseling Goals:

It is the school counselor's duty to assist students in developing:

I achieve the counseling goals by teaching classroom guidance lessons, individual counseling, small group counseling sessions, an annual career day, and through referrals to outside agencies when appropriate. I promote Red Ribbon Week. I supervise the Nutrition on Weekends program. I am the 504 Coordinator. I am on the PBIS core team and Leadership team for GSES. I also sponsor the Panther Helpers and coordinate the Legacy Youth mentoring program.
