Mrs. Thompson's

Counseling Website

Welcome to Mrs. Thompson's School Counseling Website! I have the joy of working with students in Kindergarten through Sixth grade at Junction City Elementary using Classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. I also collaborate with school staff, parents, and outside agencies in order to best meet the needs of students.

Students will often refer themselves for help with a problem they might have. It may be that they are scared that mother and daddy might get a divorce, their beloved pet has died, or a family member is very sick or dying. I have many resources to use to help them through the difficult time. Most of the time children come to me because they have a friendship problem and I work with the friends to help them resolve the issues and be able to move forward.

Another role that I have, is to oversee testing as the Building Test Coordinator . This involves all the management issues of scheduling and complying with requirements given by the state of Arkansas. I will organize NWEA in K-2 and ACT Aspire 3-6. A lot goes on behind the scenes to make our testing an organized process. I will keep you up to date on the Parent Page of the website.

I will also be more involved in Gifted and Talented this year.

In order for our students to be successful the Arkansas Department of Education has identified five guiding principles that will enable our students be successful in skills needed to thrive at home, school, on the job, and in the community.

The G.U.I.D.E. for Life program, with the support of Arkansas counselors and educators, is designed to give K-12 students a plan - a literal five step process - that they can follow to achieve personal success.

G.U.I.D.E.

Growth - Manage Yourself

Understanding - Know Yourself

Interaction - Build Relationships

Decisions - Make Responsible Choices

Empathy - Be Aware of Others

I will be implementing the G.U.I.D.E. for Life experience in my K-6 classroom lessons this year with lessons to fit that are age appropriate for your child. You will be able to use this website to see what your child will be learning in counseling this year by clicking on Classroom Guidance and then your child's grade level.

My website will be ongoing as it is a work in progress. Check for changes and additions often. I hope this keeps you updated and always feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have, or if I can help you in any way.

About me

I grew up north of El Dorado and graduated from Norphlet High School. I then worked a few years and attended Louisiana Tech University where I got my degrees in Elementary Education, School Counseling, and Gifted and Talented Education. My first job after college was teaching 6th grade at Fulbright Elementary in Little Rock. I taught there for 5 years.

I have worked at Junction City Schools for more than 20 years. I taught sixth grade for one year before becoming the Elementary Counselor and Gifted and Talented teacher. I have two sons; one lives with his wife and two sons in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he is a physician and she is a stay at home mom. My other son lives with his wife in Junction City where he is a high school biology teacher and coach and she is a first grade teacher.

I have a yellow Lab named Otis who is my constant companion.

I am now the Elementary Counselor and the Gifted and Talented Coordinator for the school.

I like spending time at the Lake Claiborne with my family and watching Dragon sports. Both of my boys were Dragon ball players and now I have a coach in the family and I attend as many of his Dragon football and softball games as I can.

I love my family, my job, and the children at my school.
