Building a House
This is an artwork that is inspired by Sarah Davis' 'Push' series. She makes artwork by taking objects and putting its in print into clay. Then she casts it by using plaster. I have done the same with materials you may use to build a house. After I have done the in prints of all of the objects I created a wall around the clay and poured the liquid plaster. Afterwards I spray painted it. This artwork took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes. This artwork is 15cm by 14cm.
Louise Bourgeois' Spiders
Above is another artwork inspired by Louise Bourgeois. I made the sculpture using florist wire and electrician tape. I made the body of the spider with the wire first then I added the tape over it. While making this sculpture I was very focused on the shadow that it creates; this is why I took the images in the dark. This took me about 1 hour.
I was taken by the context behind the spider work symbolizes a mother figure representing both a protector and a predator. I first saw one of these spider sculpture when I went to the Ski trip to Austria with the school.
African Mask
This was originally a class project in year 7 but I decided to take it further by painting it half and half. The left side is colourful and the right side is contrasting with black and metallic gold. The mask I made with grog clay by having a platform and an ark over it. I put newspaper in it so it can have support then I added features that I had planned out. I made this mask with some properties in common with the cheetah like the section I cut out under the eyes. After it has been in the kiln I used acrylic paint to paint it. The way I got the gold effect was by putting the paint on a brush and paint it on sugar paper until it was dry. Then I put it all over the right side. Over all including the time spent for planning this project took approximately 9 weeks of school lessons. The length is 20cm, the width is 13cm and the depth from the ground to the highest point is 8cm.
The Robber Of The Louvre
This is a sculpture made by using white air-drying clay, wire, masking tape, tissue and black acrylic paint. I started by shaping the wire to get the proportions of the figure right, then wrapped masking tape around it. After that I built the main body with clay. Once the clay dried I painted a robber's mask with a black acrylic paint. Finally I soaked tissue in a mix of water and clay and added to the robber's back.
I chose to make a robber after hearing about how the Louvre was robbed. It really caught my attention. I imagined him in a pose carrying a sack full of jewels.
This sculpture is 29cm tall. This sculpture took me 2-3 hours.
