In Class Digital Resources
Students play an online game or complete a class activity to make money choices in a series of scenarios to simulate money moving through the city economy.
Students will observe goods and services mentioned, city services, and ways taxes are used in the city.
Students discover that, in a thriving city, people, businesses, and the city government exchange money and make money choices, including taxes. Taxes paid to the city buy things that benefit everyone, like fire stations and schools.
taxes: fees charged by the government to pay for goods and services
government: groups of people who manage cities
Students will be able to:
Describe how money flows through a city.
Demonstrate how the choices people make benefit themselves and other people in the city.
Explain how the city government uses the tax money to pay for the goods and services it provides.
