Students attending the Ocean County Vocational-Technical School are typically juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career major related to job placement, or to continue their education in a college or postsecondary technical institution. The students attend home school for half a day, and then are transported to their Vocational School Center (Brick, Ocean, Jackson, Lakehurst, or Toms River) for the remainder of the day. Students maintain full status with their home school where they pursue academic courses, take part in sports and other co-curricular activities, and graduate.
Fifteen (15) credits are given for successful completion of a program and such credits are applied for graduation. Grades are reported marking periods 2, 3, 5, and 6.
Students apply to the shared time vocational school programs starting in January of their 10th grade year. They may also opt to apply in their 11th grade year as well. Students will recieve notification about their application status in the spring. They must notify their school counselor of their intention to attend the shared time program so that their course requests can be adjusted accordingly.
Upon graduation, students receive both a high school diploma and a certificate of completion from the Ocean County Vocational-Technical School. In addition, students may receive state and national certifications. Many vocational-technical programs have Tech Prep agreements where students can earn between three and twenty college credits while still in high school.
Applications and OCVTS Guide for Applicants with complete course descriptions may be obtained from the guidance office. The decision of acceptance is made solely by the Ocean County Vocational-Technical School and is based on space availability, the student’s grades, and record of attendance.
