The freshman course emphasizes team sport strategies with emphasis on individual skill development. Through skill instruction, students are readied for modified game situations which lead to strategy and techniques in regulation game play. Rules and safety are emphasized.
* Health 9 - Values clarification, decision-making skills, problem solving, and healthy interpersonal relationships with peers and family are emphasized. Exploration of masculinity and femininity and their roles will be discussed. Puberty and emotional growth will be explored, emphasizing both physical and psychological changes in both sexes. Human reproduction topics will include abstinence, responsible sexual behavior, pregnancy facts, and sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS

0710 PHYSICAL EDUCATION/DRIVER EDUCATION 10 (A/B)

This course continues to emphasize team sports strategies. Since skills have been stressed during the first year, game situation is the main concern after a brief review of skills. Rules and safety precautions are stressed.
* Driver Ed. Theory - Topics that receive emphasis are: legal aspects of driving, care and repair of motor vehicles, analysis of accidents (causes and prevention), and the significance of safety in operating a motor vehicle. All aspects of safety while operating a vehicle are stressed. Discussion will take place regarding the graduated driver’s license and NJ State Drivers manual. The NJ written driver’s examination is given to students at the conclusion of the class. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate which may qualify them for an insurance discount.

0724 PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH 11/12 (A/B)

“Life-Time” activities are offered during the Fall and Spring semesters: Racquet Sports, Physical Fitness, and Adventure Bound. Team sports are also offered, such as basketball, volleyball and softball. The units include a review of the history of the activity, rules, terminology, and recommendations for attire, equipment, etiquette, and safety. “Adventure Bound" in the eleventh grade consists of activities such as problem solving, initiative problems, basic rock climbing, canoeing, and the high ropes course. It is taught as part of the regular physical education curriculum. Eleventh grade classes will receive help from Peer Helpers recruited from the senior Adventure Bound program on belaying activities that include the high ropes course and rock wall. *Health 11 - This course is designed to introduce a combination of necessary information for healthy lifestyle choices. This course focuses on the dynamics of health in modern life in the rapidly changing world. The modern concepts of health that will be covered are as follows: Mental Health (i.e. personality, disorders, illness, etc..) Diseases (i.e. cancer, heart disease, diabetes), Nutrition, Organ Donation.

0731 PHYSICAL EDUCATION/HEALTH OPTION 2 (1SEM/FY)

“Life-Time” sports develop a higher level of play and advanced skills in individual and team sports. Students are also involved in challenge tournaments as they continue to develop skills in specific activities. Support and emphasis on activities that will help students stay active throughout their lifetime. * Health 12 - Upon successful completion of this health class the seniors will enter the adult world equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a positive healthy lifestyle. They will learn how to enhance their personal lives as well as the lives of those around them. The modern concepts of health that will be covered are as follows: First Aid/CPR and Injury Prevention, Sexuality, Violence (i.e. dating violence)
*OPTION 2- Students entering their senior year may opt to meet their graduation requirements using the Physical Education/Health 12 PLO-Option 2 model. In order to be considered for Option 2 Physical Education students must meet the following criteria: Students must complete the Option 2 Physical Education/Health application and receive the appropriate approval; students must have a minimum of 90 credits and have completed their junior year. Additional information can be found on page 15 and applications are available on the Guidance webpage and in the Guidance Office.
0728 PHYSICAL EDUCATION/ADVENTURE BOUND/HEALTH 12

This course includes activities that are an extension of the previous year. Rock climbing, canoeing, skiing, and other challenging outdoor activities compose a large part of the school year. Additionally, the senior classes are used to help with organizing and chaperoning the junior field trips. Adventure Bound allows students to become familiar with New Jersey's environment and leisure time activities. It fulfills the physical education requirement.
0734 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING I

Prerequisite: 70 or better in previous Phys. Ed. Courses or teacher recommendation.
Description: The students, in order to be an integral positive member of their school and community, must first have a positive self image, both mentally as well as physically. Strength and conditioning, when done properly, enhances one’s self image, self confidence, a feeling of accomplishment and an investment in one’s future health. Many sport related activities, as well as varsity competition, can and will be enhanced through specific strength and conditioning programs. The student’s will gain valuable information in designing and implementing a strength and conditioning program to meet their individual needs.

0742 SELF DEFENSE
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: 70 or better in previous Phys. Ed. courses or teacher recommendation.
In this self-defense course the student will learn conscious proprioception, a control of one’s mind and body. The students will develop concentration, confidence, discipline, self-esteem and positive image. In the process of learning about one’s self in these times, it is important to be able to recognize dangerous situations and to be able to defend oneself from bodily harm. This course will provide those essential learning experiences.
0744 DANCE - P.E. 11 /12
Grades: 11 &1 2 (all levels of dance)
Pre requisites: successful completion of 9th & 10th grade Phys. Ed
This course will provide an opportunity for students to gain a greater appreciation for the arts as well as participate in a Lifetime fitness activity. This course will expose Students to a rich diversity of Dance which may include but is not limited to; World/Cultural/Folk dance, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Latin, Line, Country as well as Pop culture dance. Students will learn about the foundations/history of dance & discover different styles of choreography. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with their classmates on a variety of projects including creating/choreographing /performing their own dance pieces. Throughout the course students will be dancing. This is an activity/movement class. This course includes a Health component & satisfies the 11th/12th grade PE Requirements
