For marking period and final grade reporting on report cards and transcripts, a numeric grade system utilizing an unweighted 100-point scale is used. For Class Rank and GPA, a weighted grading system is used in GPA calculations. See chart later in this section for more details.
A “WC” indicates Withdraw Credit
A “WF” indicates Withdraw Failing
A “WP” Only used for students transferring out of school district
Pass/Fail Courses will receive either a P or F
For all semester courses, the final grade will be calculated as follows:
MP 1 = 28%
MP 2 = 28%
MP 3 = 28%
Final Exam = 16%
For A/B courses:
MP 2 = 28%
MP 4 = 28%
MP 6 = 28%
Final Exam = 16%
Full year courses that meet every day:
MP 1 = 14%
MP 2 = 14%
MP 3 = 14%
MP 4 = 14%
MP 5 = 14%
MP 6 = 14%
Final Exam = 16%
A = 90% -100%
B = 80% - 89%
C = 70% - 79%
D = 65% - 69%
F = 0% - 64%
Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 will be permitted to earn an “exemption” from the final exam, if the student earns a 93% or higher for all three marking periods (semester and A/B classes). Students enrolled in a full year class that meets everyday must earn a 93% or higher for all six marking periods. If a student elects to take the “exemption”, then his/her final grade will be the average for all three or six marking periods. There are no exemptions for AP courses.
A student's rank in class is determined by his/her cumulative grade point average (GPA). This is determined by the following formula:
GPA= Quality Points x Credits Earned / Total Credits Attempted
Quality points are calculated using weighted final grades converted to a scale ranging from 1.0 to 5.5. Weights are 1.05 for Honors or 1.10 for Advanced Placement (multiplied by final grade). Grades on report cards/transcripts are not reported as weighted. Weighted grades are used in Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation only. Pass Fail Courses will receive either a P or F and will not be configured into GPA. Option 2 (PLO) and Independent Study Courses will not be configured into GPA. WC and WF will be configured into GPA. An initial cumulative GPA and rank will be completed at the end of each school year. The official GPA is calculated in September of each school year.
Beginning with the 2021 senior class, an unweighted GPA will be posted to the transcript in addition to the weighted GPA. The numeric grade translated to 4.0 scale multiplied by credits earned / total credits attempted.
