Congratulations to John Adams Academy-Roseville's Virtus choir for winning a top Gold rating at the 2025 Anaheim national Heritage Festival in March, plus 3 highest awards:
1st Place in the Chamber Choir division
Best Overall Choir, all divisions
Adjudicator's Choice Trophy
On March 29th, John Adams Academy-Roseville’s advanced choirs, Schola Cantorum (7th-9th grade) and Virtus (10th-12th grade), performed for a panel of judges at the 70th Annual Golden Empire Music Festival at California State University, Sacramento. Both choirs were awarded the festival’s highest rating, the coveted Unanimous Superior plaque.
The Virtus choir performed the same challenging musical set that won them a gold rating and three top awards in Anaheim in March: Stroope's dramatic "Lamentations of Jeremiah," the tragic Latvian folksong "Kas Tie Tādi," and Kirchner's swinging arrangement of the American spiritual "O! What a Beautiful City." The Schola Cantorum choir performed their own challenging set of music -- comprised of Narverud's inspiring "Ad Astra (To the Stars!), the Scottish "Thistle and Rose," and the traditional Māori song "Kuo Rongo Mai Koe."
