Please repeat the exercises from Chapter 3 onward as many times as you need to.
Before working on Chapter 3 (Word Bank), be sure to read Chapter 2 to be familiar with natural disasters in Japan.
In Chapter 3, you will learn basic Japanese and phrases on natural disasters. §1 introduces Japanese names of disasters, §2, words and phrases that you hear on TV and radio, §3, words and phrases relating to warnings, and §4, “Don'ts” in an emergency.
Chapters 4 and 5 provide an introduction to earthquakes and tsunamis, respectively. In these chapters, §1 covers fundamental scientific principles, while §2 presents chronological disaster information through hypothetical scenarios and audio examples. You will learn the basics in both sections and then check your understanding with quizzes. §3 summarizes the essential words and phrases to ensure the safety of yourself and your students during a disaster. In the event of a disaster, it is crucial to obtain accurate information and respond quickly and appropriately. It is also important not to isolate yourself from your surroundings. §3 also provides helpful terminology for this purpose.
In Chapter 6, we introduce actual evacuation drills in earthquakes and tsunamis. Please check your understanding of the drill. These drills are for the coastal area in Iwate Prefecture, northeast Japan.
Repetition is key to language learning. Please repeat the exercises from Chapter 3 onward as many times as needed. Also, take enough time to learn and don't force yourself to finish the study in one day.
