At Brimsdown, we follow the Hamilton Trust scheme of work which supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum end of key stage attainment targets. It provides clear progression year on year, and gives children with all their scientific knowledge to work scientifically. These skills are:
• asking questions
• making predictions
• setting up tests
• observing and measuring
• recording data
• interpreting and communicating results
• evaluating
We have carefully organised the units of works to support other areas of learning and incorporated the school’s drivers to ensure it meets the needs of all our children. We aim to inspire all our pupils by studying a range of diverse Scientists during Wow Days and within units of work. We explicitly teach children the related vocabulary using the STAR strategy, so they can articulate their understanding, which embeds their learning and knowledge of each unit being taught. We ensure that we provide children many outdoor learning opportunities as well as offering experimentation so that children gain the knowledge and skills they need to prepare them for their future success.
