You can make anything by writing." - C.S. Lewis.
At Brimsdown Primary School, we have designed our English curriculum to suit the needs of our children. We recognise the development of children’s language and vocabulary is crucial to their success. We want all children to be excellent communicators, to listen actively and to speak with confidence. Children are helped to develop a love of reading, clear phonic strategies and taught to be skilful and imaginative writers. Our Fast Feedback approach allows children to self-reflect on their learning through 1:1 conferences with their teachers.
The Write Stuff
The Write Stuff approach to teaching writing provides a clear view of what high quality writing looks like. Each lesson is clearly structured and children are given a clear model on which to base their writing. There is a rich vocabulary focus at the heart of each lesson allowing children to develop their vocabulary and word choice. It builds on children's confidence with sentence structure and widens their repertoire of writing options bringing together an idea of the whole piece of writing as the organisation between their ideas and cohesion is developed.
Reading is a passport to countless adventures." -Mary Osbourne
Children who read regularly or are read to have the opportunity to open the doors to so many different worlds! More importantly, reading will give your child the tools to become independent life-long learners. At Brimsdown, we aim for all our children to become fluent, confident readers who are passionate about reading.
We achieve this through:
placing reading and books at the heart of our curriculum
recognising that being able to read well is a key life skill for all children, regardless of their background
allowing children to read independently, read aloud and be read to daily
Read Write Inc- a structured phonics programme designed to ensure all children learn to read accurately and fluently
