Art and Design
At Brimsdown, we follow the Kapow scheme of work which supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum end of key stage attainment targets. It provides clear progression year on year and allows children to practise the four key areas of making, formal elements, building their knowledge of artists and evaluating. We have carefully organised the units of work to support other areas of learning and incorporated the school’s Drivers to ensure it meets the needs of our children.
We aim to inspire all pupils to develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own pieces of art. We explicitly teach children the related vocabulary so they can articulate their ideas and opinions confidently. We ensure children partake in competitions, gallery visits and exhibitions so that children gain the knowledge they need to prepare them for their future success.
Design & Technology
At Brimsdown, we follow the KAPOW scheme of work which provides clear progression year on year and allows children to build on their knowledge and skills. The children focus on these five areas: design, make, evaluate, technical knowledge and cooking and nutrition. Through the D&T curriculum, children are inspired by engineers, designers, chefs and architects to enable them to create a range of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems and food products with real life purposes. We explicitly teach children the related vocabulary using the STAR method, so they can articulate their ideas and opinions confidently.
