Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Summer Camp:
Is the camp two weeks long, or do I choose just one of the weeks to attend?
Camp is two weeks long, Monday-Thursday 8 am-10 am
Is the Summer Camp Registration refundable or prorated if I can only attend some of the days or just one of the weeks?
No. We do not have modified prices. Even if athletes can only come one of the weeks, or select mornings, we recommend still attending when possible so we get to know the athletes better and they start getting to know each other.
Is camp required?
No, but highly recommended.
The Tryout Process
What is the tryout process?
There are two tryout rounds. First-round tryouts happen before school starts during our summer camp. At the end of first- round tryouts, the coaches make one, very selective roster of all of the athletes that we can guarantee a spot in the program come season (these athletes will then be placed into off-season soccer class). Second-round tryouts happen at the end of October. This is the tryout to be placed on a team roster for the 2025-2026 season.
What if I miss first-round tryouts?
Email the coach. Make-up tryouts will be held on August 20th from 4:00-6:00 on the PHS grass fields.
How are the teams created?
When an athlete tries out, they do not try out for a specific team, but to be part of the soccer program as a whole. The coaches will determine where we think each athlete will have the most success based on their skill level compared to the rest of the girls trying out.
Off Season Soccer Class
When is soccer class?
Soccer class is 7th period and run by the head coach. During a normal school week this means that players will meet during class time, 7th period, on Monday for a 45 minute fitness training, and Tuesday/Thursday for a longer block period of soccer practice. Players who want to be a part of the team during regular season are highly encouraged to participate in the class.
Does this count as my PE?
YES. Soccer class counts as PE credit and will be the athlete's “PE” class.
Can I do off-season even if I am doing club soccer?
Yes. Almost all of our athletes do club soccer while in high school off-season class. The coaching staff understands the athletes are sometimes doing double and keeps high school practices lighter during this time.
What if I want to do a fall sport?
Athletes planning on doing a fall sport will not be in the soccer off-season class and instead will be with their fall sport full time. They will join high school soccer once their fall sport ends around the end of October.
What does the soccer class look like in the spring?
We have an off-season class in the Spring that runs at the same times as in the Spring (7th period). Freshmen and Sophomores who still need to fulfill their P.E. are required to remain in the soccer off-season class for the Spring unless they are playing another spring sport. This is a great opportunity for younger players interested in reaching the Varsity level to develop their skills.
General Questions
How many teams are there?
In past years we have fielded two teams— a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team. Each year we look to add a Frosh/Soph team; However, if our overall numbers aren’t quite enough we will only field two. It is better for us to field two larger teams than be stretched really thin with three teams.
How do the teams work/can a freshman make varsity?
An athlete of any age can make Varsity. Only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors can make Junior Varsity. Only freshmen and sophomores can play for FROSH. Varsity is a very competitive, experienced level of soccer. It is rare, but not impossible for underclassmen to make this level.
When is soccer season?
Soccer is a winter sport and will begin in November and go until early/mid-February.
Does high school and club soccer conflict?
Athletes are not allowed to participate in high school games while they are still playing in club games. Clubs will have a down period starting in late November and pick back up in the middle of February to allow for high school play. Practicing for both teams can happen simultaneously
