Compliance with state attendance statutes and regulations is a student and parental responsibility. Lincoln EDGE is obligated to keep an accurate record of weekly attendance. A Lincoln EDGE student is considered truant if he or she accumulates three (3) cumulative unlawful absences. After six or more unlawful absences accrue, a Lincoln EDGE Attendance Plan (LEAP) meeting will be convened. Parents/guardians will be notified and asked to attend; students are also asked to attend. The home school district will have access to all attendance information. After ten (10) cumulative unexcused absences, the home school district will be notified and the student may be removed from the active school rolls or prosecuted if under compulsory school age consistent with the PA School Code. The ultimate decision to remain enrolled or withdraw from Lincoln EDGE resides with the home school district.
Lincoln EDGE calculates weekly attendance using the following methodology:
Attendance is recorded on a weekly basis each Monday morning. The Lincoln EDGE school work week is defined at Monday, 12:01 AM through Sunday, 11:59 PM. Students can meet Lincoln EDGE attendance requirements one of two ways:
1. Pacing – Students are expected to be “on pace” in all classes weekly. If they are no more than an average of three assignments behind, students will have met the week’s attendance requirement.
2. Student Activity Time – If students are more than an average of three assignments behind in all of their classes, computer activity minutes are reviewed. Edgenuity
measures the time that students are actively engaged and making forward progress in their online learning courses.
Attendance for students in grades 6-12 is determined using the following scale:
# of Active Minutes Number of Days Absent
0-50 5.0
51-125 4.5
126-200 4.0
201-275 3.5
276-350 3.0
351-425 2.5
426-500 2.0
501-575 1.5
576-650 1.0
651-725 0.5
726+ 0.0
Students in grades K-5 have the option of completing many assignments off-line using EDGE-provided workbooks and then uploading the completed work. This requires time that is not logged by the system because it is off-line, so attendance for students in grades K-5 is determined using the following scale:
# of Active Minutes Number of Days Absent
0-25 5.0
26-62 4.5
63-100 4.0
101-137 3.5
138-175 3.0
176-212 2.5
213-250 2.0
251-287 1.5
288-325 1.0
326-362 0.5
363+ 0.0
This methodology does not necessarily replace the formal policy or procedures in place at each individual school district. Districts retain final determination of student attendance. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to visit their dashboard regularly to check for absences and submit an excuse to justify the absence. For more information regarding attendance please refer to your Student/Parent Handbook.
