The Edna Martin Christian Center began when a 43-year-old African-American trailblazer couldn't ignore the needs of families. In 1941, Edna Martin rented a one-room apartment for $14 a month and started a daycare. She determined to feed kids, teach children about Jesus, work with parents on job and life skills, and inspire people to give back. The Center continued to grow when it came under the auspices of the American Baptist Church in 1945. Mrs. Martin continued to uplift the community, start businesses, and help families until she passed away in 1974.
Today, we still minister in the Martindale-Brightwood community.

Essential role functions:
Generating marketing materials, such as flyers, newsletters (both print and e-newsletters), post cards, and social media posts.
The ability to edit videos would be a plus.
Writing grassroots stories with a lot of emotional content, be committed to fairness in storytelling, be willing to probe for the heart of the story, and have the technical ability to lay out the stories in a brand-new publication.
The successful candidate will have the flexibility to help coordinate and promote events. The events themselves will be on evenings and weekends, though 90% of the intern’s work will be done beforehand.
Qualifications:
Be 18 years old or older
Integrity
Excellent listener
Basic knowledge of InDesign, the Adobe Creative Suite, and the MS Office Suite and / or Google docs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. You will be asked to complete a proof-reading test.
Preferences:
Working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest
Experience with social media analytics, including Google
Analytics and Facebook Insights will be helpful.
Be comfortable interacting with a variety of personalities
Be able to tackle various assignments related to fundraising events
Abide by journalistic codes and ethics
