For my engaged learning, I chose to work with BACI ) Burmese American Community Institute), the UCP (Upper College Program). I was working as a mentor, to help students with their school work and check their grades to make sure they were keeping up with their school work. We also help students stay on track on their path to college by helping them apply for scholarships, and schools, and doing college visits during breaks. I chose this particular experience because I feel as though it will relate to my future career. In order to be a good mentor, you need to be a good listener and communicator. Being able to understand the unique needs and challenges of each student requires active listening skills.
