This collective is a protected & affirming space for junior/early career Learning Scientists looking to challenge normative notions of the body in learning. In particular, we invite people who acknowledge the complexities of doing research that considers the needs, desires, and experiences of bodies which do not submit to normative expectations of gender, race, sexuality, ability, size, shape, trauma, or identity.
Our Core Values
Community & Accountability: Solidarity in the struggle! We show up and are present to the best of our capacity. We have each other's backs. We explicitly attribute credit for intellectual property. We assume good intent while holding ourselves accountable. We listen to and give back to our bodies. We do not demand labor of others which we ourselves would be uncomfortable doing. We communicate intentionally, sensitively, and compassionately.
Justice & Equity: This is an explicitly trauma-sensitive, anti-racist, and queer-inclusive space. In this house: black lives matter, love is love, science is real, feminism is for everyone, & no human is illegal. We don’t mis-pronoun/dead-name people & we don't invalidate folks' lived experiences. This is a safe space for queer folks, people of color, and any and all minoritized scholars. No ‘-ists’ or ‘isms’ will be tolerated.
Reality & Retreat: The struggle is real and this space is not an escape/denial of reality, but rather a safe space to exist in it. We’re fine, everything is fine. But also - sometimes it's okay not to be fine. We name injustices and inequities as we see them - yet - we acknowledge that taking care of our bodies may require that we do not immediately act. We care for our bodies as much as we care for our communities.
