WHAT'S AFTER SIP?
Update my resume to add SIP
-Fill in new skills learned and add a new reference
Get another job/internship
-One for the fall semester
-Preferably one in counseling/addictions or one working directly with helping adults
Be accepted into the IUPUI BSW Program
Get my certificate in addiction counseling
-And any other certificate needed for my senior year apprenticeship
Graduate from IUPUI
-With Bachelor's Degree majoring in Social Work and a Psychology minor
1- I can easily update my resume after SIP is over and then send it to any future jobs with my updated references and skill set that I have gained from Ascend Indiana.
2- I plan to get another job/internship by using the combined efforts of the Ascend Indiana network and my updated resume to look for fall opportunities.
3- I have recently applied to the BSW Program not knowing that it was due this semester; my application is currently being reviewed at this time.
4- I will get my certificate in addiction counseling by enrolling in a program for it. I am not sure whether this will be before or after my senior apprenticeship but hopefully, I can get the certificate before I graduate.
5- I plan to graduate from IUPUI with my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in May of 2026 and might even consider going for a Master's Degree after I reach this goal.
My "next steps" will be very useful in reaching my future career goal of being an addiction counselor. Updating my Resume will inevitably assist me in finding a job after the Sophomore Internship Program by adding more specific skills like Microsoft Office, Public Speaking, etc. onto my old list of more general skills. Once I get another job using the experience I've gathered from SIP, I can have a better chance of getting a paid, educational apprenticeship. The combined efforts of the apprenticeship, getting accepted into the BSW Program, and keeping consistent grades will set me up to graduate from IUPUI on time. Finally, receiving a counseling certificate will almost guarantee me a job while I consider going back to school for a Master's Degree.
