Montgomery County, Indiana is seeking to address and respond to the opioid epidemic. The community has created an active Montgomery County Opioid Coalition. The coalition has done community wide education programs and harm reduction strategies like Narcan distribution. Over the past two years, the Montgomery County Health Department, Crawfordsville Fire Department’s Mobile Integrated Community Paramedicine program, Drug Court, Pam’s Promise, and the jail have been working with IUPUI faculty and students to further expand their desire to become a recovery supportive community. Assessment of the outcomes of these multi-faceted partnerships is helping to inform state legislation, has helped the coalition establish priority areas for programming and other interventions for the next five years, and will be used by the health department to plan their own strategic interventions.
