Revisiting the "Neighborhood of Saturdays": Exploring the Legacy of a Multi-Racial Community on Indianapolis' Near Southside

This poster addresses a current community-based undertaking in which anthropology students are following up on the decade-old “Neighborhood of Saturdays” project. That endeavor told the story of the African-American and Jewish elders, who had grown up together on the near Southside of Indianapolis during the first half of the twentieth century. The current cohort of students are working on a series of public-facing deliverables that will bring the story of this neighborhood into the present. In this poster, we describe these new projects and argue for the importance of repatriating research back to study communities in accessible formats that can promote civically engaged dialogue.
