Experience in my academic and professional life that translate to prospective careers in anthropology that I am interested in.
As part of my interests in public-facing anthropology, I volunteer with From the Page, a collaborative transcription platform, to make historical documents more accessible to the public and researchers.
My contributions included transcribing a wide range of archival materials; from swamp land patents to Civil War draft records, each requiring attention to historical context, legibility, and accuracy.
This experience deepened my understanding of how raw historical documents are transformed into usable data and narratives.
It strengthened key career readiness competencies including attention to detail, critical thinking, and digital literacy, while reinforcing the anthropological goal of making knowledge more equitable and publicly accessible.
This work directly connects to my interest in archives, public memory, and cultural preservation.
As a volunteer at Crown Hill Cemetery, I help clean and preserve historic headstones, gaining hands-on experience with material culture and memorial practices working with their historical preservationist, Jeannie Regan-Dinius.
This work connects directly to my anthropological interests in public memory and cultural heritage, while reinforcing key career competencies like
attention to detail
professionalism
and teamwork.
It also deepened my understanding of how communities honor the past, preparing me for future work in archives, museums, and cultural institutions.
Early 2000's blog-styled portfolio relating to the the couple's presence online, reflecting the culture they were immersed in online and met in.
As part of an ethnographic research assignment, I conducted an in-depth interview with a friend who immigrated from the Netherlands to the United States to marry. This experience allowed me to explore themes of
migration
identity
and cultural adaptation
through a personal lens.
This ethnographic work strengthened my skills in
active listening
qualitative interviewing
and cultural analysis
which are essential tools in anthropological research.
This project deepened my interest in how personal narratives shape and reflect broader social and cultural dynamics- knowledge I will carry into future work in ethnography and applied anthropology.
