Kay Edge is an Associate Professor of Architecture and Chair of the Graduate Architecture Program at Virginia Tech, and a licensed architect. She has worked professionally in New York City, New Haven, Connecticut (Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects), and Blacksburg, Virginia. Her teaching and research has focused on design-build projects using innovative sustainable materials, most recently cork and locally-sourced hardwood cross-laminated timber. Her 2018-2019 design labs designed and built an award-winning train-viewing structure in Radford, Virginia. Undertaken in collaboration with colleague Edward Becker, the project has been recognized with Design, Research, Design Education and Material Innovation awards. She maintains a small residential, furniture, and object design practice in Blacksburg, Virginia.
