Adventure #6 Standards

Water Conservation

In this unit, learners explore the concept of water conservation and how water can be saved in a variety of different ways. Oil Spill, the first activity, guides students through a simulated pollutant spill and allows them to investigate what methods allow for the best cleanup. Then, after learning about how they can save water in their day-to-day lives, learners will draft their very own Water Conservation Action Statement.

Disciplinary Core Ideas

Human activities in agriculture, industry, and everyday life have had major effects on the land, vegetation, streams, ocean, air, and even outer space. But individuals and communities are doing things to help protect Earth’s resources and environments.

Human activities have significantly altered the biosphere, sometimes damaging or destroying natural habitats and causing the extinction of other species. But changes to Earth’s environments can have different impacts (negative and positive) for different living things.

Crosscutting Concept

Cause and effect relationships can be suggested and predicted for complex natural and human designed systems by examining what is known about smaller scale mechanisms within the system.

Science and Engineering Practice

Generate and compare multiple solutions to a problem based on how well they meet the criteria and constraints of the design solution.
