ILIA’s CompTIA Security+ crash course, delivered as part of the Baltimore’s Promise CareerBound Stackable Credentials program, got kicked off this past Saturday, May 9 at 9 AM. The program is an intensive 4-day cohort spanning two weekends, designed to get young adults with a pre-existing IT certification armed with the necessary knowledge to prepare for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. Seven students attended on each of the first two days.
The instructor, Mohamad French, got his Security+ certification in April 2025 and received his master’s degree in computer science (security track) in May 2025. French also serves as the IT and Cybersecurity Director at ILIA. With the material still fresh in his mind, he is able to explain the flood of concepts to the students in detail. His focused yet detailed notes as he was studying for the Security+ form the basis of the slides.
“I think it’s useful information,” said one of the students.
The Security+ covers many topics, including the cybersecurity threat landscape, malicious code, social engineering, password attacks, security assessment/testing, application security, cryptography, identity/access management, resilience, physical security, cloud/virtualization security, endpoint security, network security, wireless and mobile security, monitoring and incident response, digital forensics, governance/compliance, and risk management.
The latter half of this Security+ cohort is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. A separate cohort under this program, focusing on the CompTIA CySA+ and Pentest+ certifications, is scheduled to take place June 22-25.
