HOWARD COUNTY, The Annual HoCo Islamic Fundraising Event, hosted by Islamic Leadership Institute of America (ILIA), is a call to the community for solidarity to make a huge impact. As a non-profit organization empowering youth to achieve their potential, ILIA launched a comprehensive youth development program thanks to the County Government’s 18-month grant, benefiting hundreds of students and families. This program offers mentoring, coaching, training, and counseling services to help young adults prepare for their academic and professional goals.
What is the HoCo Fundraiser about?
The HoCo fundraiser addressess pressing issues such as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the rise of Islamophobia, challenges of youth identity, lack of employment opportunities, promotion of LGBTQ agendas in schools, prevalence of suicide ideation, and the need for mental health support. It emphasized the vital role of young adults in creating a more inclusive and peaceful future.
The fundraiser event also featured insightful panel discussions on two significant topics. The first, "Empowering The Youth Is An Indispensable Investment For The Future," delved into ILIA resources like the Youth Crisis Line, EmpoweReer, and I Can Lead. The second panel, "We Should Never Doubt The Youth’s Abilities To Change The World," showcased youth-built resources such as the Palestine Resource Center, Uyghur Resource Center, and Gender Identity Resource Center.
