For MYP5, DP and Danish STX students
The club is designed as a creative studio space open to all upper secondary / high school levels where participants can develop practical ceramic skills while also exploring ceramics as a contemporary visual art form.
The course is suitable for all levels of experience, from complete beginners to students with prior art or ceramics experience. Technical instruction and support will be provided throughout but all participants will be encouraged to work independently and develop increasingly ambitious outcomes. Across the year, participants will work with hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab-building, as well as surface processes including texture, glazing, and tile-based work in connection to contemporary ideas of art.
The club will introduce participants to the relationship between ceramics, sculpture and image-making, including introductions to contemporary ceramic artists and experiments with the use of photographic or graphic imagery in clay-based work. Over the spring semester, the course will gradually move towards a more sustained individual art project, allowing participants to produce an independent ceramic artwork over a longer sequence of sessions.
