We are excited to relaunch and expand our Danish Extra Programme following the strong interest from families. This semester, we are adding more classes and reopening the Early Years Danish Playgroup (previously led by Zoe).
Our dygtige teachers Dawn, Berit and Marie-Louise are ready to continue developing the programme and supporting our students in strengthening their Danish in a warm and structured after-school setting.
If your family plans to stay in Denmark for the coming years, or if your child would benefit from extra Danish practice, we encourage you to sign up.
Please complete one form per child. (If your PYP child is already enrolled in Danish with Ms. Freyja, there is no need to register again.)
We look forward to building even stronger Danish skills together!

About the teachers:
Ms. Dawn
Most families know me as the PYP Intermediate Danish teacher at ISH. I have been an IB classroom teacher for more than 20 years, taught English in a Danish school and, of course, now teach Danish to the wonderful students at ISH. I grew up in the USA and moved to Denmark in 2001. I have two bilingual boys, aged 16 and 22. Together, we enjoy being outdoors, playing games and making nice food. I am excited to be a part of this new after school Danish Club.
Ms. Berit
The families at ISH do not know me yet, so here’s a little introduction: I am Danish, but lived in Nigeria much of my childhood, so I have lived experience of being a child learning more than one language. I have a lovely 16-year old daughter, who was born in Ireland, so she too is bilingual. I enjoy baking, playing in my garden in the summer, repairing and building things and just being with people I love. I have worked my whole adult life with families and children as a social worker and the last ten in a small Børnehave (daycare) as a kind of Pædagog. Along the way, I have also done some teaching. I love working with kids and can turn any learning into fun and games. I really look forward to helping the lovely kids at ISH to develop their Danish.
Ms. Marie-Louise
My name is Marie-Louise, and I’m a passionate language enthusiast. I grew up in Denmark as a native Danish speaker, but I’ve also lived in the USA, Spain, El Salvador, and Peru, where I studied and worked with languages and cultures. These experiences inspired me to pursue a Master’s in Spanish Language and Culture.
I have experience both as a language teacher and as a student learning new languages, which helps me understand my students’ perspectives. I love seeing children grow socially and linguistically, and I enjoy helping them develop their Danish skills in a fun and engaging way.
This year, I will be teaching advanced and beginner/intermediate Danish to PYP students in the Danish club programme, as well as in the Playgroup for Early Years students. I focus on creating a positive and interactive learning environment, using structured lessons, games, and play-based activities to make language learning meaningful and enjoyable. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new interests, being creative, and spending time in nature - often bringing these experiences into my teaching.
I look forward to welcoming your child and supporting their Danish language journey!

Overview
This workshop introduces young children to sculptural hand casting and natural pigments through playful, hands-on artistic exploration. Using safe, non-toxic materials, students create plaster casts of their own hands and experiment with plant-based pigments to paint and finish their work.
The workshop is strongly process-focused, encouraging sensory learning, curiosity, patience, and close observation. Students begin by exploring materials such as alginate, plaster, and natural pigments, learning basic studio routines, safety, and how different textures and substances behave. They then move into hand mould making and casting, practicing stillness and careful craftsmanship. In the final phase, children mix and test natural pigments, make creative choices, and reflect on their outcomes.
The workshop complements existing classroom art activities and concludes with a small classroom exhibition, where families are invited to view the work and take the finished artworks home.
