Reading~ This week in reading, we reviewed long and short vowels, ABC order, and Magic E. The Superkids review workbook is coming home with students today; we didn't finish the last few pages, but they can read them at home if they wish. Next week, we will start our 2nd Grade Superkids books! We also started something called the Daily 5... ask them if they can remember the first 3 choices I introduced to them this week! 😄
Math~ We've been working on FACT POWER this week! At this point, they should be pretty quick with their basic + and - facts up to 20. Flashcards would be a GREAT investment if you think they need some more practice. We discussed strategies for the count-on method, doubles, doubles +1, making a 10, and Magic 9. Ask them if they can remember the Magic 9 strategy... it's a fun story and a great trick!
Friday Fun~ Friday Fun is a special bonus time that kids can earn each week! To earn Friday Fun, students need to show Tiger Pride and work hard on their assignments ALL week long. This means being responsible, making good choices, and giving their best effort. During Friday Fun, I'll have a variety of fun activities available, such as crafts, beading, new games, and other fun activities. Students may also bring a small toy or board game from home to enjoy during Friday Fun if they wish. It's a great way to celebrate a week of hard work, positive choices, and Tiger Pride!
Desk Pets~ I'm sure you've heard about Desk Pets by now! If you haven't, here's the scoop! Students are earning paw stamps on their chart whenever they are working hard and showing Tiger Pride. Once a student fills their chart, they get to visit our "Pet Store" and choose a desk pet, food for their pet, or toys and accessories for their pet. Today was the first day our Pet Store was open, and the kids were so excited to start choosing their pets! Students will keep their Desk Pets at school and take care of them throughout the fall. Then in December, they'll get to bring them home! It's been a fun way to encourage hard work, responsibility, and lots of Tiger Pride! 🐯
Reading: Read every night for 20 minutes
Spelling: Practice your spelling words
Fluency: The fluency story is on the back side of your spelling list that is coming home today in Friday Folders. Read the fluency story at least 3 times out loud to an adult to work on your fluency! The goal is to eventually read as fast as you talk in a conversation.
