Coronavirus Response Plan
ISD 318 Grand Rapids & Bigfork
Wednesday, March 25
Thank you for your patience and support as we work to adjust to a new normal. We recognize that this is an unknown and stressful time for many families.
Distance learning will begin on Monday, March 30. Your child’s school will have provided details about what that is going to look like. If you have questions, please contact the main office of your school.
Distance learning will look different at every level, but internet will only be necessary at the secondary level. Our principals, counselors, and social workers are reaching out to families to ensure access. In Kindergarten through 6th grade the technology is supplemental. If you do not have internet access it will not affect your child’s learning. It is being used as an enrichment tool.
Today Governor Walz announced that distance learning will take place at least through April 30th. While the schools are closed to students, we will continue to provide meals and emergency childcare services.
Monday, March 16
On Sunday, March 15, Governor Tim Walz and Education Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker issued an order for all K-12 Schools in the state of Minnesota to close from Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 27. Please note that the situation is fluid and may change.
Schools are tasked with using this time to create distance learning plans for our students. No instruction will take place from March 18 through March 27. Teachers and administrators are using this time to develop a plan for continuous learning should the schools need to be closed for a longer period of time.
We understand that this closure causes a disruption for our families and students. Our schools are a vital part of our community. Families rely on the reliable routine and the knowledge that their children are cared for during the day. Our students rely on the learning that takes place to help them become informed citizens ready for post-secondary options.
Please know that we our doing our very best to make decisions that meet the needs of all of our stakeholders.
We are working hard to ensure that all of our staff and students remain safe as we deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We want to make sure that families and staff feel well supported and informed.
