Social Injustice is "... the denial or violation of economic, sociocultural, political, civil or human rights of specific populations or groups in the society bases on the perception of their inferiority by those with more power or influence." (Levy & Sidel, 2006, p. 6)
"Social issue, also called social problem, a state of affairs that negatively affects the personal or social lives of individuals or the well-being of communities and about which there is usually public disagreement as to its nature, causes, or solution." (Britannica Online, 2023)
Some of the guiding principles of social justice are:
Human Rights: These are rights afforded to every individual no matter their personal characteristics, preferences, or identities.
Access: This means access to food and water, shelter, safety, education, and opportunity.
Participation: That no decisions are made about us without us.
Equity: That systemic barriers are removed and policies enshrined to ensure every individual is treated fairly and equitably.
