A playlist is a collection of songs. Anybody can make playlists, share them, and friends can add to your playlist.
Put together a soundtrack of songs for The Odyssey. Songs can convey strong emotions and the overarching themes in The Odyssey are wrought with emotion, too.
Music is a universal language where every single aspect like the lyrics, melody and instruments each communicate a unique message only the listener can understand. A great song, no matter how long after you were first introduced, can transport you back into a memory which brings back feelings of joy and content. Reading and music go hand-in-hand and this activity will help you bring together the best of both worlds!

Odysseus’ best or worst trait
Add at least 4 songs to your theme playlist for The Odyssey
For each song, write a description of why this song is important and represents the topic you choose from The Odyssey.
Write from the point of view of your character from the book.
Must contain at least 4 relevant, events, quotes or paraphrases from the text(s) to prove or disprove heroism or a character trait.
Evidence goes beyond what was explicitly taught in class.
All evidence (events, quotes and paraphrases) are accurately cited with page numbers
Imagine someone wanted you to recommend a book for them to read, but you could only describe the Odysseus or Penelope using a playlist. There is never truly or wrong way to make a playlist, but these general questions will help you craft a soundtrack worthy of a book-to-film adaption.
What songs contain lyrics that describe the overall theme of the heroism or a character trait?
When reading a scene in the book with Odysseus or Penelope, what is the first song that firsts pops into your head or what song is playing in the background?
What song would the your character listen to during the book, when thinking about the theme?
Step 1: Figure out what type of genre(s) of music your theme falls under
Step 2: Start selecting songs that make you think of the events of heroism or a character trait occurring in The Odyssey.
Step 3: Repeat for at least 3 examples of how the theme is represented in the book.

Set your playlist to “unlisted,” so you are able to share the link with your teacher.
Add THREE songs to your playlist: one to represent the theme at the beginning, one from the middle, and one to represent your theme at the end of the novel.
For each song, write a description of why this song is important and represents the theme you choose from the Odyssey. Hashtags are acceptable. Write from a first-person perspective, as if you ARE the character.
