SteamPunk Hats

Futuristic, yet retro at the same time, Steampunk is truly one-of-a-kind. The genre blends the aesthetic and technology of the 19th century with elements of science fiction. Its literary and audiovisual works take place in an alternate reality where technological progress is based not on electricity, but on the steam engine.

Steampunk, a World of Steam

Steam is a central element of steampunk. The technology featured in this universe is generally just as advanced as that of our modern world, but it uses steam as its energy source instead of electricity, gas or oil. As a result, steampunk technology takes on a retro look reminiscent of the Industrial Revolution era.

“Steampunk is am art movement that imagines how different the past might have been had the future come earlier.”

Steampunk is not only an art movement that focusses on paintings or 3d sculptures. It far broader than that: Cosplay, movies and even music can be added to the art movement.

The Assignment:

You're gonna make a hat, like the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland (Also a steampunk story).
The hat will be completely made of recycled materials. We will provide you with a yoghurt bin as a starter. The rest you will provide yourself.
When the hat is finished, you make the decision wether this will be a candleholder or a lamp.

You will follow the steps here, but you're allowed to do make some diversions:

Those could be:

  • you find another cilinder for the hat you want to use

  • you completely build the design of the hat of cardboard (you can make it how you want it)

  • You want to use another metal color than bronze (f.e. silver or gold)

  • You design a different lamp shade.

  • Your hat has moving elements

  • You have another great idea and you talk to us about it and we approve it.

You'll be graded according the rubric (see below).

Good luck!!!!
