I filled out the application. How do I know if I've been approved?
You will receive an email from your counselor regarding your approval status. Your counselor may deny your application if you don't need the class, may have trouble finishing it, signed up for more than one course, or if preference has been given to juniors and seniors and the course is full. If you have more questions, talk to your counselor.
Are the classes self-paced?
Yes, the classes and assignments are self-paced with deadlines based on target dates provided by your teacher. There is a schedule of assignments that shows where you are supposed to be each week. You're expected to keep up with the pace of the class and not try to save it all for the end. This is to help you finish everything in time. You can choose what days of the week to work on the class, and you can go faster than the schedule if you want. Your teacher is always available to provide support.
The semester schedule is as follows:
Online applications open for students open at 8 a.m. on August 1, 2025.
Online applications close on September 1, 2025 or until the enrollment cap is met, whichever comes first.
Counselors may begin approving applications during this time. Space is limited, so juniors and seniors will receive priority. Not every application will be approved.
Counselor deadline for approving/denying students is September 8, 2025.
September 15, 2025 Required Face-to-Face Orientation at Cardwell HS from 5:30-7:00
All online teachers will provide a required face-to-face orientation. Classes begin after students have attended orientation.
September 30, 2025
Last day for students to drop a class for a one-semester course.
October 14, 2025
Last day to drop an online class for a full-year course.
December 12, 2025
Online courses close. Grades are due.
What if I need to drop the online class?
The drop deadline is two weeks after the class starts for a one-semester course and three weeks for a full-year course.
If you need to drop the class, please notify your teacher and campus counselor immediately. After the drop deadline, you may not drop the class and must complete it to avoid getting a failing grade on your transcript.
NOTE: Active participation is required and students are expected to begin work immediately following orientation and are expected to respond promptly to teacher communication. When this does not occur, online teachers may drop students who are not participating nor responding to communication on the drop date AFTER repeated, documented attempts to contact the student and parent after notifying students and parents.
Is the Electronic Communication form required?
Yes. You must have your parents sign this document so that you can be enrolled in a course and/or so that your teachers can communicate with you.
Where and when is orientation?
Orientation attendance is required:
September 16
Cardwell Career Preparatory Center, 101 E. Union Bower, Irving, Texas 75061
5:30-7:00
Bring your charged district-issued device.
Your teacher will send you the meeting details one week before the meeting.
What if I can't attend orientation?
Orientation is required. Please work with your teacher to make arrangements to attend orientation to avoid being dropped.
