Welcome to Vacation Bible School 2023! This VBS Parent and Student Guide is created to provide guidance and preparation to get ready for VBS! It is very important that you take your time to go through this booklet. Thank you.
VBS 2023 Program
WESTERN SUBURBS (28 - 30 June 2023)
Heathdale Christian College

Parking
WEST - Heathdale Christian College (Werribee Campus)
The campus is located at 175 Derrimut Road, Werribee. Please enter from the main entrance on Derrimut Road and turn left to Creative Arts carpark as you enter the campus. We will have signs and our committees will be present to direct you to the Secondary School building for sign in.
EAST - Eva Burrows College The Salvation Army (Ringwood)
The campus is located at 100 Maidstone Street, Ringwood. Please enter from the main entrance on Maidstone Street and turn left to visitor parking area. We will have signs and our committees will be present to direct you to the main building entrance for sign in.
Sign In / Out Process
Please note that this year the program starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm for Wednesday and Thursday; and for Friday it finishes at 5.30pm.
Every child needs to be signed in and signed out.
Sign IN:
Sign in time starts at 9.30am. Children are not allowed to be left unattended by parents before 9.30am
There will be a manned Welcome Desk at the entrance and please follow the signs that will lead you to the right classroom
Please remember which class they belong to
Lower Class: Prep to Year 2
Middler Class: Year 3 and Year 4
Upper Class: Year 5 and Year 6
Sign OUT:
Sign out time is 4pm. Please ensure you pick up your child on time and no later than 4.15pm. Should there be an emergency please contact us immediately via email vbs@irecmelbourne.org or 0491 082 129
Please provide your photo ID for proof of identity check. The name stated in your photo ID needs to match the name listed in your child's registration form. Please email us to add additional persons that are allowed to pick up your child
For children with allergy and other health conditions, please remember to drop off and collect their medications from our First Aid Officer at the Information desk. It is located on the Ground Floor. For more information please refer to Allergy, Asthma, and Medication section.
Things to Bring (Compulsory)
Drink Bottle
Lunch (please DO NOT bring food that contains nuts as we have children with allergies)
Bible (optional for children in Lower Class)
Stationery such as pencils, colour markers (colour pencil for Lower Class), scissors and gluestick
Face mask (if they are ‘household contact’ they need to wear a mask indoors). Please see COVID Safe Policy for more information
For Lower Class children, please bring spare clothes and make sure that all their belongings are labelled with their names
Medication (please see section below)
Please DO NOT bring cameras and any electronics devices that can distract the students during VBS.
Allergy, Asthma, and Medication
If your child has any allergy or other health condition, by now the committee should have received their asthma / action plans and health information. If you have not done so, please email us your child’s health information and their up-to-date Asthma/ASCIA Action Plan (with their photo attached) as soon as possible otherwise the child will not be able to attend the program.
Children with allergies and asthma need to bring their medications as stated in their Asthma and/or ASCIA Action Plan. Please do not forget to also bring the spacer for children who have asthma. The medications need to be brought in everyday and given directly to our First Aid Officer at the Information Desk located on the Ground Floor. Please collect the medication from the same location when you are picking your child each day.
The medication needs to:
Be labelled with the child’s name
Have a measuring cup if it is to be taken orally
Not be expired
Be kept inside a zip lock bag together with the child's Asthma/Action Plan. Please ensure that the Asthma/Action Plan:
Is up to date
Has a photo of the child
Lists the medication’s name and dose for the child
Dress Code
Please wear comfortable and proper attire. There will be outdoor activities, we recommend that students wear a comfortable pair of shoes and clothing. Please bring a raincoat/waterproof and warm jacket.
Dress colour. Please wear the following colour for each day
Wednesday: Green or Blue
Thursday: Red or Pink
Friday: White or Orange
VBS badges. Children will be given embroidered badges on Wednesday. Please iron or pin the patch on the left front of your child's white/orange T-shirt for FRIDAY. If you wish to iron on a T-shirt, please remove the paper cover behind the patch and iron it directly to the T-shirt. Please view this video on how to iron a badge.
Sick / Absent Day
Kindly keep your child at home if they are unwell or exhibit any COVID symptoms. The COVID symptoms to look out for are fever, cough, runny nose / congestion, sore throat, headache, tiredness, loss of smell or altered sense of taste, aches and pains, diarrhoea or vomiting, rash on skin, red or irritated eyes, and/or difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
We will appreciate it if you could notify us via email if your child will be absent on the day. This will save us time in trying to reach you and help teachers to anticipate the number of children in their care that day.
Celebration and Presentation Event
We invite parents to come and join our Celebration and Presentation Event which will start with a welcome afternoon tea at 4.15pm and ends at 5.30pm on Friday 30 June (West) and 7 July (East)
Due to limited space, ONLY TWO persons per family can attend the event. We kindly ask the family not to take any photos or videos during the presentation
Snack Menu
VBS will provide snacks that do not have nuts listed in the ingredients but some traces of nuts may still be found there. You may wish to bring your own snacks for your child if they have allergies.
Here is a list of snacks that VBS will provide. Please check if your child can consume them otherwise, please prepare their own snacks from home.

VBS COVID Safe Policy
All VBS committees and children are strongly recommended to undertake a Rapid Antigen Test at home on the morning of Day 1 VBS, and must not attend VBS if they have a positive result
All VBS committees and children should continue to practise good hand hygiene, particularly on arrival to VBS, before and after eating, after blowing their nose, coughing, sneezing, or using the toilet. Teachers will help direct and supervise the children to sanitise or wash their hands regularly
If a child has any of the COVID symptoms while on VBS, parents will be contacted to collect their child. The symptoms are cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, chills, sweats, shortness of breath, loss or change in sense of smell or taste
Inform us via email if your child tested positive for COVID and follow DHHS advice
Family Close Contacts do not need to isolate, but if they are attending VBS they must:
Notify the committee via email vbs@irecmelbourne.org
Wear a mask while indoors (Age 8 and above only). They are required to wear face masks indoors for the first 7 days after their initial contact with an infectious person
Undertake a Rapid Antigen Test for 5 days
