19-20 School Supply Kits:
We are once again partnering with SchoolKidz this year and will be utilizing their School Supply Kit Program for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. The supply kits create a uniform and organized learning environment - while minimizing the time spent by parents running around finding the specific supplies requested for your child's grade. Ordering info was sent home earlier this month. The sale is currently open and will run through May 3rd, 2019. Kindergarten kit information will be sent home in New Student Orientation packs, but can be ordered now using the same website -www.shopttkits.com (Peterson account #1355). Participation is optional. If you would like to participate, please make sure to place your order online during the sale dates. No late orders will be accepted. Any questions regarding this program or the sale can be directed to Julie Sassano at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Teacher Appreciation Week:
As the end of the school year is approaching so is Teacher Appreciation Week. We will be celebrating our awesome staff May 6th-10th. Our Room Moms have been busy putting together a book for all the classroom teachers, but we want to be sure to include all of the staff at Peterson. So please encourage your kids to complete additional coloring pages (see attached) for any support staff they want to thank. Please return these pages to their classroom teachers by April 26th.
The PTA has also planned other daily activities for the students to show gratitude to the staff. See the attached flyer for more information. We can't wait for the fun to begin.
Student Council – Earth Day/Week:
Thanks to our Student Council for kick-starting our efforts this week! Thanks to Becca for sharing her idea for a recycling venture at Peterson. Thanks to everyone for helping improve the quality of our environment for us and our children.
We want people to recognize recycling in our school this week! Help us by recycling better. You can help in the classroom by putting the right objects in the recycling bins, like only paper or plastic, but not food. We also want to stop throwing everything in the lunch room away in the trash! To help in this, please recycle and follow directions at lunchtime. Pack an Earth-friendly lunch with few throw always. Put your recyclables in the proper bins at lunch!
Parents: We want you to remind your children about proper recycling and clean-Earth habits. At school, students will be watching a video about how a recycling plant has to sort and manage all the trash that is picked up street side. We hope this encourages students to pay attention to where and what they throw away.
Some other ideas for Earth Day: Pick up trash around your neighborhood to keep the Earth clean. Walk to school instead of driving! Volunteer for a local clean-up day. Remember, have a happy Earth Day! Thank you, Panthers, for participating in Earth Week!
District Preschool Program Coming to South Naperville
District 204's Prairie Children Preschool will soon be expanding to south Naperville. Starting with the 2019-20 school year, the preschool program will have classrooms at Graham Elementary School. The preschool’s main campus is located at 780 Shoreline Dr., Aurora. For the past several years, the preschool has also offered its program at Longwood, Gombert and McCarty Elementary Schools on the district’s north side.
Prairie Children Preschool offers early childhood education for children ages three and four and is open to all District 204 residents. The program provides a continuum of instruction based on learning standards aligned with District 204’s kindergarten program. All classroom teachers are licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education and hold endorsements in the areas of early childhood education, early childhood special education, and English as a second language. Preschool classes are 2.5 hours each day, Monday through Thursday. Tuition is $245 a month. Visit the website for enrollment materials.
Optional Parent Input Forms:
Soon staff and I will begin to develop the class lists for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents will again have the opportunity to complete the Optional Parent Input Form 19/20 . The purpose of this form is to share information you feel would be helpful in placing your child, so he/she can have the best year possible. Please know that our staff spends an extensive amount of time to create class lists. We consider each child’s unique learning and behavioral needs in order to place them in the best learning environment. If you feel you have information that may help us in this process, please complete the form (see blue link above or attached document) and return it to the office no later than Wednesday, May 1st. If you have any questions regarding the completion of the form or the process, please contact me!
