The mission of Patterson Elementary's Physical Education Program is to deliver high quality instruction to all students so they can acquire the skills, knowledge, and confidence neccessary to be physically literate learners.
My name is Derrick Biehl. This is my 4th year as Patterson's Physical Education Teacher!
A little bit about myself:
I was born and raised in a small town south of Buffalo, New York. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Certificate in K-12 Physical Education at the College of Brockport (near Buffalo). After Graduation I did 1 year of service work with AmeriCorps NCCC. With AmeriCorps NCCC I was able to travel and work with Non-Profits such as Habitat for Humanity, Children's Hospitals, and Community Development Associations throughout the Southwestern United States. When finished with that, I did another AmeriCorps term with a different program called ABLE (AmeriCorps Builds Lives Through Education) basically I worked in two different Charter Schools in Buffalo as a Teacher's Assistant and ran an after-school program. After all that I ended up in Aurora, Illinois where I worked for West Aurora School District 129 as a Permanent Pre-School Substitute for a year. That following summer I was lucky enough to land here at Patterson and work with this amazing community.
During the 2018-2019 school year I won the Northeastern District of IAHPERD's Young Professional of the year. I also have/currently present at multiple workshops & conferences on Physical Education, and would consider myself a bit of a P.E. Geek.
I am extremely excited to have another fantastic year here at Patterson, and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by email: derrick_biehl@ipsd.org
