The Gombert Library Media Center is the heart of the school where a community of learners collaborate to learn, explore, and create. It is a place that empowers students and teachers to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and risk-takers.
The mission of our school Library Media Center is to collaborate with teachers and students to develop learning experiences that support and extend the district curriculum. Instruction will utilize a variety of materials and information that satisfies curiosity and allows teachers and students to become skilled researchers and enthusiastic readers.
Meet your Teacher Librarian!
Welcome readers!! I'm Mrs. Ensign, the LMC Director. I am excited to begin my fifth year in the library at Gombert (my 18th in the school!) After graduating from the University of Iowa, I began my teaching career at Gombert as a 5th grade teacher at Gombert. During that time I obtained my master’s degree in Reading and Literacy from Benedictine University. After 4 years in the classroom moved to the Reading Improvement team where I have stayed for the last 9 years. I continued my learning by getting my National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood as well as my Google certification. I wrapped up my Library Media Specialist certification at Illinois State University in 2019. Always learning, always growing.
Throughout my career, I have always had a passion for children's literature. I love nothing more than sharing a new book with students and teachers. This year we will continue to put creativity and innovation to use! I am still looking forwarding to sharing great books and exploring new technology with your students!
When I'm not at school, you can find me most days cooking, at CrossFit, reading, walking my dog, and chasing my kids to their next sporting event! This is my family...my husband Dave, our 2 children (Lucas-9th grade and Layla-6th grade) and our dog Kona.
It's going to be a great year!
