Hello, my name is Sherry Krev and this is my tenth year teaching at Fischer Middle School. This year I will be teaching Essential Technology, Creative Technology, Digital Media and Study Skills. In addition to the classes I teach, I also coach 7th grade girls’ volleyball and co-sponsor Newspaper Club.

Essential Technology - This is a required class for all 6th grade students. The following units are covered during this semester class. There will be no homework associated with this class. Daily Agendas and in class assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.
Keyboarding
Used as a warm up activity. Emphasis is placed on technique, speed and accuracy. “Touch-type” method of learning to keyboard is emphasized through using the Typing.com website.

Creative Technology - This is a required class for all 7th grade students. This class may also be taken in 6th grade by some students. The following units are covered during this semester class. Communication Through Media
Students learn to communicate clearly and express themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals
Students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems or communicate a purpose by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.

explore most-used websites and how they serve creators and users
brainstorm interests and topics for website development
use HTML to communicate structure of web page (tags)
add images to website (give attributes to creator)
clean (comments and white-space) and debug code
apply text styles and non-text styles to personal website
add custom colors and classes to modify the appearance of website
create a personal website
Data, Computational Thinking and Analysis
Students develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems.
Students will learn that data is an important tool for solving problems.
Students will understand that data must be entered and organized accurately in order to generate meaningful data representation
Students will interpret collected data to identify patterns
Students will apply the data problem solving process to a personally relevant topic
Students will determine appropriate sources of data needed to solve a problem

Digital Media - This is an elective class for 8th grade students. There will be no homework associated with this class. Daily Agendas and in class assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.
This course combines visual design, computer applications and business techniques. Students will create, manipulate and use print media, audio recordings, video recordings and websites to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences. Possible projects include: Photoshop, digital animations, sound bites, movie productions, and digital portfolios.
Units of Study:
Can You Hear Me Now - Students will learn and apply best practices when creating auditory artifacts
Don’t Move - Students will learn the elements of design and apply these elements when creating static visual artifacts using Photoshop and drawing tools
Technology on the Move - Students will learn the best practices of design application to analyze and create motion pictures and animation
Websites - Students will learn the design principles for creating websites. They will build a website that integrates text, static images, audio recordings, motion pictures and animation by building on knowledge from the first three units for study
Study Skills - This is a required class for all middle school students. There will be little or no homework associated with this class. Daily Agendas and in class assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.
This course is designed to help students develop and use study skills that will help them become successful learners. Students will learn various techniques that will be helpful to them throughout their academic years. Students learn techniques for studying successfully in their courses. Techniques may include time management, reading and writing methods, note-taking, test-taking and memorization skills.
