About the Department

Department of Physical Education, Indraprastha College for Women has been an active department of the College, organizing various sports activities all around the year. The prime events are the Annual Sports Festival. which comprises of events like - Inter College Cross-Country Run and Athletic Meet for PwD students also, The Indraprastha Invitational Badminton & Tennis Tournament which witnesses participation from students of different colleges of the University of Delhi is regularly held. The Department also organizes some workshops on Wall Climbing, Self-Defense, First Aid in collaboration with expert agencies. 

The College has Value Added Course-FIT INDIA for First Year students, notified in their Time Table. This gives them the opportunity to avail the sports facilities, as well as train themselves for team games and participation. Often, teams are constituted and the College is represented in various sports/events from the general pool of students.

The College has various teams like Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Baseball, Netball, Softball, Chess, Air Rifle Shooting, Air Pistol Shooting, Boxing, Swimming, Volleyball, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Judo, Tennis, and Yoga. All our teams keep participating in various state, national and international events, which bring laurels to the College.

The College has a well-equipped fitness centre, squash court, tennis courts, badminton courts, basketball courts, a climbing wall, a walking track, and playing arena also for PwD students, to cater to the needs of students looking for complete sports and fitness.

Indraprastha College for Women is the only woman's college of the University of Delhi that boasts of a Swimming Pool. Built in 1956, it has a glorious history which is enshrined on a marble tablet within the pool premises. 

The Department celebrates the International Day of Yoga on 21 June every year, for the College community and the neighbourhood. Some of the Sports facilities in the College are opened for use of the larger community.

Even during the pandemic, the Department has been very active and been continuously conducting virtual sports fitness classes for the students and various events for the college staff and community.
