About the Department
The Department of Commerce was set up in 1977 in response to growing demand for the subject amongst potential admission seekers. Started in a modest way, with two faculty members as founding members and around the students, the Department today boasts of a team of eleven dedicated permanent faculty members and excellent students. One of our retired faculty members, Mrs. Renu Gulati, received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Delhi in 2013-14.
To enable all round development of our students, talks by eminent speakers and interactions with industry leaders are organized by the Department. Students are provided real time experience through trips to various places like the Accounting Museum, Snapdeal, National Stock Exchange etc. The Department carries out ongoing assessment of students through assignments, group presentations and discussions, class tests and quizzes and an active tutorial system that ensures personal teacher-student interaction in addressing course-related issues.
The Department was one of the first in the University of Delhi to provide fully equipped one to one computer laboratory for IT based papers in B.Com (Hons.) through packages of Tally, OpenOffice and HTML. The Department offers skill enhancement courses in Ecommerce and E-filing of returns to prepare students for competitive exams. The Department also offers job-oriented optional courses related to finance and marketing.
The Commerce graduates of our college are in great demand in the corporate world and several have been placed through the College Placements Committee in reputed companies such as Google, KPMG, Capital IQ, Genpact, Deloitte, Ernst and Young etc., in recent years. Many of the Department’s alumnae have made their mark in the fields of Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretary, Cost and Works Accountancy, Management and Academics in India and abroad.
