Biodiversity can be defined on a variety of levels. Ecosystem biodiversity refers to the variety of habitats within a particular area or region. The Schoolyard Biodiversity Investigation focuses on species biodiversity, or the variety of plants and animals in a particular habitat.
The section takes the skills learned in Sections One and Two and applies them to the specific unity study of the schoolyard. These activities are for the intermediate learner but teachers can modify as needed for their students. These activities, more than in the precious sections build on one another as a whole Unit study, so this section is set up more sequentially and not in the 5E model of the previous sections.
