William Latham and Jasia Reichardt, January 2026
The speaker for the 2026 Computer Arts Society Jasia Reichardt Lecture was Professor William Latham. I first met William in the mid-1990s, when he was producing cover art for the band The Shamen, and I worked on their websites and multimedia projects. Back then, William's evolving, organic computer-generated images and videos made him something of a cult figure in the electronic music and VJ circles I circulated in at the time. Since then, his reputation has only grown, and he has exhibited internationally, with his ongoing collaborations and innovations cementing him as one of the world's leading and most recognised digital artists. William gave a fascinating talk that covered his lifelong career from art student, researcher, games designer, through to his current work with Google DeepMind, and he took questions at the end. I had the pleasure of hosting the evening together with Bronac Ferran. The talk can be found on the Computer Arts Society YouTube Channel. It was also lovely to catch up with Jasia, organiser of the 1968 Cybernetic Serendipity exhibition and after whom the annual lecture series is named.
