"Please think about your legacy because you're writing it every day" - Gary Vaynerchuk

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Monday Kingfishers and Doves were continuing to rehearse for their EYFS Singalong next Monday. The video is on Twitter - have a little peek at their rehearsal as the children look very excited!

On Tuesday Year 6 worked extremely hard and applied a lot of resilience to their maths lesson which focused on dividing fractions. They then applied their fluency to reasoning questions too.

Celebration assembly was wonderful on Wednesday. The children were awarded certificates for Star of the Week and for Maths Timetable Rockstars. In addition to this, Year 2 were learning how to subtract 2 two-digit numbers with exchanging. The children had fun using their tens and ones to practically solve the answers to each of the questions with their peers.

On Thursday Year 4 continued their speeches where they were writing to persuade Neville Chamberlain to stop Hitler from invading Britain. The children used their historical knowledge throughout their piece of writing and focused on using key vocabulary and persuasive devicest to improve their writing further. In addition to this, Year R and Year 1 had their PTA Christmas movie night where they watched The Gruffalo's Child. The children had such a lovely evening with their friends watching a film and they enjoyed some food together too!

Today was non-uniform day in exchange for a chocolate donation for the Christmas Raffle. Thank you to so many of you who made donations - we are extremely grateful! At 9am, Year 3 had their Trashion Show in the Key Stage Two hall. The children printed their designs on t-shirts (which looked fabulous) and presented their learning to parents too. Well done Year 3 - what a brilliant show! In addition to this, Year 2-6 had their PTA Christmas movie night where they watched The Grinch. The children thoroughly enjoyed the film with their friends.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Absence Policy

The Attendance Advisory Practitioner (AAP) from Medway Council frequently check our attendance registers to ensure all children attend school regularly, on time and that absences are

authorised or regular absences are challenged.

Please follow these simple steps if your child is going to absent:

● On the first day of your child’s absence, please contact the school before or as near to 9:00 a.m. as soon as possible (01634 864721 and press 1). If no contact is made regarding

your child’s absence on the first day it will go down as unauthorised absence.

● If there is an illness, on the third day of absence please make a doctor’s appointment, retaining the appointment card or any medication label/s that were prescribed for your child,

this cannot include “over the counter medicines”.

● On your child’s return to school please send a letter of explanation for our records which may authorise the absence. Any medical evidence provided will authorise your child’s absence.

● If you would like to request to take your child out of school in term time, please email the school office. Under no circumstances should children be taken out of school for holidays

during term time.

● If you are requested to attend an Attendance Clinic, please do your best to be present. This clinic is designed to look at supportive ways to help you and your child with their attendance

and lateness. If you cannot attend the appointment at the date/time given, alternative arrangements can usually be made.

● If you are sent a letter for an unexplained absence, please complete and return it on the next school day. Giving reasons for the absence as “ill or unwell’ will not be accepted, and it will

be unauthorised.

If your child arrives after registration, they will receive a ‘U’ mark and this will count as an unauthorised absence/late (unless satisfactory proof or evidence is provided). If a child receives 10

unauthorised absences/lateness, they will be referred to the AAP who will then contact you. The government target for attendance is 96% as research has shown that children do best

academically and socially when they attend school above this target.

Key Messages

Group A Strep

Group A strep cases – advice for parents You may be aware from the media that the UK is seeing a high number of Group A strep cases this year. The bacteria usually cause a mild infection which can lead to sore (strep) throats, impetigo or scarlet fever, that can be easily treated with antibiotics.Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is very infectious. Symptoms to look out for include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Contact NHS 111 or your GP if you suspect your child has scarlet fever, because early treatment of scarlet fever with antibiotics is important to reduce the risk of complications. If your child has scarlet fever, keep them at home until at least 24 hours after the start of antibiotic treatment to avoid spreading the infection to others. In very rare circumstances, these bacteria can get into the bloodstream and cause serious illness – called invasive Group A strep (iGAS). This is still uncommon. As a parent, if you feel that your child seems seriously unwell, you should trust your own judgement. Contact NHS 111 or your GP if: your child is getting worse your child is feeding or eating much less than normal your child has had a dry nappy for 12 hours or more or shows other signs of dehydration your baby is under 3 months and has a temperature of 38°C, or is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 39°C or higher your baby feels hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest, or feels sweaty your child is very tired or irritableCall 999 or go to A&E if: your child is having difficulty breathing – you may notice grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs there are pauses when your child breathes your child’s skin, tongue or lips are blue your child is floppy and will not wake up or stay awakeGood hand and respiratory hygiene are important for stopping the spread of many bugs. By teaching your child how to wash their hands properly with soap for 20 seconds, using a tissue to catch coughs and sneezes, and keeping away from others when feeling unwell, they will be able to reduce the risk of picking up or spreading infections.
