You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” — C.S. Lewis

Dear Parents/Carers,

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a lovely break and that you feel refreshed for the term and year ahead!

We welcomed the children back on Tuesday and EYFS had a very exciting visitor to start the term - The Gruffalo! As part of their immersion into their new text, EYFS had many exciting activities planned into their provision which were associated witht he Gruffalo. They loved using the cotton buds to practise number formation and recognition. In addition to this, Year 2 were reflecting on their learning from last term and thinking about vocabulary that they could use to enhance their writing this term in English.

On Wednesday Year 6 spent time looking up new vocabulary and filling in vocabulary cards in preparation for the term ahead. Year 5 were beginning to plan their own video games in computing. They spoke about video games that they play and used them as inspiration. In the afternoon, Year 1 successfully programmed a fish to move across the screen using coding in their computing lesson. The children were extremely proud of themselves!

On Thursday, Year 3 worked hard to improve their accuracy when throwing during their PE lesson. In order to be successful, the children had to work on their collaboration and communication skills effectively when passing and catching the ball/bean bags.

Today Year 6 had a maths workshop. The children enjoyed demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the maths curriculum to their parents and carers. Thank you to so many parents who attended, we appreciate your support!

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Group A Strep

Group A strep cases – advice for parents You may be aware from the media that the UK is seeing a high number of Group A strep cases this year. The bacteria usually cause a mild infection which can lead to sore (strep) throats, impetigo or scarlet fever, that can be easily treated with antibiotics.Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is very infectious. Symptoms to look out for include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin, the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Contact NHS 111 or your GP if you suspect your child has scarlet fever, because early treatment of scarlet fever with antibiotics is important to reduce the risk of complications. If your child has scarlet fever, keep them at home until at least 24 hours after the start of antibiotic treatment to avoid spreading the infection to others. In very rare circumstances, these bacteria can get into the bloodstream and cause serious illness – called invasive Group A strep (iGAS). This is still uncommon. As a parent, if you feel that your child seems seriously unwell, you should trust your own judgement. Contact NHS 111 or your GP if: your child is getting worse your child is feeding or eating much less than normal your child has had a dry nappy for 12 hours or more or shows other signs of dehydration your baby is under 3 months and has a temperature of 38°C, or is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 39°C or higher your baby feels hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest, or feels sweaty your child is very tired or irritableCall 999 or go to A&E if: your child is having difficulty breathing – you may notice grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs there are pauses when your child breathes your child’s skin, tongue or lips are blue your child is floppy and will not wake up or stay awakeGood hand and respiratory hygiene are important for stopping the spread of many bugs. By teaching your child how to wash their hands properly with soap for 20 seconds, using a tissue to catch coughs and sneezes, and keeping away from others when feeling unwell, they will be able to reduce the risk of picking up or spreading infections. Bookmarks

Milo and Skippy bookmarks will be available to purchase via Arbor. They will be £1 each and a great addition to a child's reading book! Once the book marks have arrived and payment is made on Arbor, they will be given straight to the children that have purchased them. The payment item can be found under Activities - Trips.
