“My today was all right and my tomorrow will certainly be better. That's the way I've always looked at life.” - Sir Captain Tom Moore

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have celebrated reading as a school and the children have participated in a variety of activities associated with reading.

On Monday and Tuesday, the children had the opportunity to join a 'Book Tasting' session, which was organised by Mrs O'Connor. The tables were set up in the hall, each one focusing on a different genre with a selection of books. Throughout these two days, the children in school visited the hall and 'sampled' these books. They discussed the books with their friends, added any that they particularly enjoyed to a bookmark and completed a mini menu where they wrote about each book that they explored. In addition to this, the children also visited the library and dressed up as a book character of their choice or in their pyjamas. The children looked amazing on Thursday and Friday - well done and thank you to parents and carers for supporting with this day!

In the afternoon on Monday, Year 4 used the outdoor environment to support their art lesson. The children focused on observing trees in our playground and developed their skill of observational drawing. They focused on sketching an outline of the tree that they focused on and then added depth and detail to make their trees more realistic.

On Tuesday, Robins and Blackbirds had the opportunity to taste some of the food items from their core text. They tasted honey, milk, rice and water and used their knowledge of senses and adjectives to describe their experience. In the afternoon, Year 1 enjoyed some outdoor learning as part of their science lesson. The children went on a little walk to see what types of trees they could find and discussed the different parts of a tree.

On Wednesday, it was Celebration Assembly - a chance to celebrate the children and their successes. We had many children achieve their Stars of the Week for resilience and effort which is fabulous to see! In addition to this, the Pen Licence panel handed their awards for the week and Mrs Rattle announced the winners of TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars). In the afternoon, Year 1 enjoyed using oil pastels to create patterns in the style of their focus artist, Kaffe Fassett.

Today Year 2 had a Learning with your Child workshop which was focused on KS1 SATs. A presentation was delivered to parents about KS1 SATs and then the children joined their parents/carers to explore different SATs questions around the hall. The children were really confident about answering lots of these questions as they do this regularly as part of their learning journeys in class. In the afternoon, Year 5 had Reading with your Child and Year 4 had Times Tables with your Child. We love organising these workshops opportunities for you to join your child in school as it encourages the children to showcase the amazing learning that is taking place at Maundene. Thank you for your continued support.

A reminder that Friday 10th March is INSET Day, therefore the school will be closed to children.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
