"Listening is a positive act: you have to put yourself out to do it." – David Hockney

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Monday Doves and Kingfishers enjoyed using tweezers to collect the orb beads that were in their maths provision. The children were encouraged to count how many they had in their cupcake cases. As the children collected different amounts, they then compared who had more or less and use the correct mathematical terminology! Well done Year R.

On Tuesday Year 2 enjoyed visiting Christ the King Church in the afternoon. Thank you to the parents and additional adults who attended the trip - we really appreciate your support.

Wednesday was our most favourite assembly of the week where children were presented with their Stars of the Week and Maths Champion certificates.

On Thursday Year 6 had an African drumming workshop which linked with their core text from this term entitled Climate Rebels. The children had so much fun playing the djembe drums and listening to a variety of different songs.

Year 4 attended Kent Life on Friday and enjoyed learning more about World War Two. They participated in a variety of activities including visiting the Home Guard and listening to strict commands.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Absence Policy

The Attendance Advisory Practitioner (AAP) from Medway Council frequently check our attendance registers to ensure all children attend school regularly, on time and that absences are

authorised or regular absences are challenged.

Please follow these simple steps if your child is going to absent:

● On the first day of your child’s absence, please contact the school before or as near to 9:00 a.m. as soon as possible (01634 864721 and press 1). If no contact is made regarding

your child’s absence on the first day it will go down as unauthorised absence.

● If there is an illness, on the third day of absence please make a doctor’s appointment, retaining the appointment card or any medication label/s that were prescribed for your child,

this cannot include “over the counter medicines”.

● On your child’s return to school please send a letter of explanation for our records which may authorise the absence. Any medical evidence provided will authorise your child’s absence.

● If you would like to request to take your child out of school in term time, please email the school office. Under no circumstances should children be taken out of school for holidays

during term time.

● If you are requested to attend an Attendance Clinic, please do your best to be present. This clinic is designed to look at supportive ways to help you and your child with their attendance

and lateness. If you cannot attend the appointment at the date/time given, alternative arrangements can usually be made.

● If you are sent a letter for an unexplained absence, please complete and return it on the next school day. Giving reasons for the absence as “ill or unwell’ will not be accepted, and it will

be unauthorised.

If your child arrives after registration, they will receive a ‘U’ mark and this will count as an unauthorised absence/late (unless satisfactory proof or evidence is provided). If a child receives 10

unauthorised absences/lateness, they will be referred to the AAP who will then contact you. The government target for attendance is 96% as research has shown that children do best

academically and socially when they attend school above this target.

Key Messages

Future Aspirations

At Maundene, we believe that it is vital to prepare our children for their future and to provide them with knowledge and experiences about future careers and aspirations. We are asking for any volunteers to come forward who would be willing to talk about their careers and aspirations to inspire our children. Please speak to Mrs Jackson if you are interested in this opportunity.

Belongings

A reminder that children should not be bringing in any of their personal belongings from home, such as pencil cases, teddy bears, toys etc. This rule is put in place so that belongings are not broken or misplaced. Although these are not permitted, children are allowed to bring in a photo or an award if it is representing their achievements outside of school and they would like to share it with their peers in school.

Year 2 Nativity Costumes

Please could we ask for any donations of costumes that have previously been used for the Year 2 Nativity/Production at Christmas. These include camels, sheep, donkey and angel costumes. Please could they be given to Mrs Rattle, Mrs Howard or the Office. Thank you in advance!

EYFS Donations

EYFS are looking for some wooden boards/decking boards that could be donated for their construction provision. If you have any or know anyone who might have some, please could you let us know!

PTA Chocolate Raffle

On 9th December, there will be an own clothes day for the PTA chocolate raffle. If the children wear their own clothes, please can they make a chocolate donations! These can be given to their class teacher on the day.
