Our learning this week...

Dear Parents and Carers,

First and foremost, we want to say a massive well done to all of our pupils. They have been absolutely fantastic at adapting to the changes in their routines this week, keeping their energy up, and remaining focused despite the uncomfortable heat. They have done us proud!

We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone for adapting so well to the heatwave. A particular shout-out goes to our wonderful Midday Supervisors (MDS) and kitchen staff, who have worked tirelessly in very hot conditions to ensure our children are fed, hydrated, and safe at lunchtime. We truly appreciate your hard work.

Our pupils have continued to work incredibly hard across all year groups despite the warm weather. In EYFS, the children have been introduced to the concept of sharing as an early step into division in maths, whilst starting to design and create brilliant bee posters in English. Year 1 have been continuing their work with money by looking closely at the specific amounts that different coins and notes represent, while Year 2 have been sharpening their place value skills by exploring tens and ones alongside investigating the key features of diary writing. In Year 3, the children have been exploring geometry by learning all about right, acute, and obtuse angles, as well as using their descriptive language skills to write fantastic character descriptions. Meanwhile, Year 4 have been focusing on converting analogue time to digital time in maths and mastering how to use inverted commas correctly for speech in English. Year 5 have taken on a brilliant creative writing challenge by working on a split-person narrative, while also delving into history to compare the Victorian court system to our modern-day legal system. Finally, Year 6 have created some stunning artwork by sketching and painting flowers and hearts influenced by the artist Travis Bedel, all whilst working hard in rehearsals for their highly anticipated end-of-year production.

Emily's Garden: A Beautiful Space for Reflection

A massive thank you goes out to Mrs. Eden and our wonderful group of pupils who have been working so hard to maintain Emily’s Garden. Thanks to their dedication and green thumbs, the garden is looking absolutely beautiful and remains a fitting, vibrant tribute in memory of our former pupil. We are incredibly grateful for your time and care.

As a reminder to our school community, Emily’s Garden is designed to be a quiet, reflective space for everyone to enjoy.

With the plants and flowers blooming, we kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that younger children do not walk or step on the flower beds during drop-off and pick-up times. Help us keep this special area looking its best and protect the hard work of our gardening team!

Working together: A Reminder on Parent Conduct

At Maundene, we deeply value the strong partnership we have with our parents and carers, and we always want to work together to support our children. To maintain a safe and positive environment for everyone, we kindly remind all visitors that our staff must be spoken to with respect. Abusive or aggressive language will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our school remains a safe, welcoming space for the entire community.

Important Notice: End-of-Day Dismissal Safety

To ensure the safety and security of all our children at the end of the school day, we kindly ask that parents and carers stand back and keep the area around the classroom doors clear.

When large crowds gather too close to the exits, it makes it very difficult for teachers to see faces clearly and safely dismiss each child to their designated adult.

Additionally, if you need to speak to your child’s teacher at the end of the day, please wait until all children have been safely dismissed first. This allows teachers to give the dismissal process their full concentration, and ensures they can give you their undivided attention once all children are safe.
