Our learning this week...

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to this week's newsletter! It has been an incredibly busy and rewarding time at Maundene, filled with sporting triumphs and fantastic classroom achievements.

Our pupils have been working incredibly hard across all year groups. Here is a snapshot of what they have been up to:

Early Years (EYFS) Our youngest learners have been discovering which plants are good food sources for bees. In their phonics sessions, they have been busy mastering the 'es' sound. Year 1 The children have been exploring money, focusing on learning the value of different coins. They have put on their detective hats to identify the key features of non-chronological reports. Year 2 Pupils have been finding their way around by learning all about direction. Writing skills are levelling up as they practise using conjunctions to connect their ideas. Year 3 Linking back to their history topics, the children have been designing brilliant 3D pyramid souvenirs. They have been exploring the power of persuasive writing by looking at rhetorical questions. Year 4 Budding mathematicians have been practising their real-world skills by calculating money. Delving into their core text, the year group has been engaging in thoughtful discussions about how the character Ally copes with her dyslexia. Year 5 Future scientists have been conducting exciting hands-on investigations to learn all about evaporation. They have been mastering place value by multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100, and 1000. Year 6 As they approach the end of the term, Year 6 have been busy writing detailed book reviews and are now preparing to write their own professional-style newspaper reports.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We want to say a huge thank you for all the lovely Thank a Teacher Day messages we received. Reading your kind words and appreciation truly made our staff feel incredibly valued and uplifted. Thank you for taking the time to celebrate our wonderful team!

Sports Day Success

We had a fantastic time at our rescheduled Sports Day! The children showed wonderful sportsmanship, energy, and determination.

A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to cheer the children on—your support always makes a huge difference. We also want to extend a special thanks to Mr White and Mr Witt for organising the rescheduled day so brilliantly and ensuring everything ran seamlessly.

Congratulations to Miss Davis!

We are absolutely thrilled to share some wonderful news with our school community! Huge congratulations to Miss Davis on the safe arrival of her beautiful baby girl, Alora. Both mum and baby are doing well, and we send them all our love as they begin this exciting new chapter together.

Our Year 5 Peer Mediators Step Up!

We are delighted to share that our newly trained Year 5 Peer Mediators have officially started their work supporting our Key Stage 1 (KS1) children during lunchtimes. If you are wondering what a Peer Mediator is, they are older pupils who act as friendly helpers on the playground. In simple terms, they are there to help the younger children spot anyone who might need a friend to play with, and to help guide them through sorting out minor, everyday playground disagreements kindly and fairly. Our Year 5s are doing a fantastic job putting their training into practice, and we are already incredibly proud of how they are acting as kind, positive role models for the rest of the school!

Match Report: Fantastic Win for Maundene Football!

A massive congratulations to our school football team, who put on a spectacular performance in their latest match, securing a brilliant 4-2 victory! The team showed incredible determination, teamwork, and skill from the first whistle to the last.

A special thank you goes to Mr Lawrence for refereeing the match so brilliantly, and to Mr Joce for his fantastic coaching and support from the sidelines. We are incredibly proud of the whole team—well done, everyone!

Working together: A Reminder on Parent Conduct

At Maundene, we deeply value the strong partnership we have with our parents and carers, and we always want to work together to support our children. To maintain a safe and positive environment for everyone, we kindly remind all visitors that our staff must be spoken to with respect. Abusive or aggressive language will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our school remains a safe, welcoming space for the entire community.

Important Notice: End-of-Day Dismissal Safety

To ensure the safety and security of all our children at the end of the school day, we kindly ask that parents and carers stand back and keep the area around the classroom doors clear.

When large crowds gather too close to the exits, it makes it very difficult for teachers to see faces clearly and safely dismiss each child to their designated adult.

Additionally, if you need to speak to your child’s teacher at the end of the day, please wait until all children have been safely dismissed first. This allows teachers to give the dismissal process their full concentration, and ensures they can give you their undivided attention once all children are safe.
